Billie Eilish

Billie Eilish has disclosed that she doesn’t perceive herself as a “woman” despite using feminine pronouns.

In an interview for Variety’s Power of Women Issue, the Grammy-winning singer discussed her challenges with femininity and body image. Eilish explained that her preference for baggy clothing wasn’t solely to avoid sexualization but also to shield herself from exposing her body due to insecurity. Despite identifying as “she/her,” she admitted to never feeling like a girl and struggling with the societal pressure regarding her evolving body.

Eilish expressed frustration with the double standards faced by women in the public eye, emphasizing that men receive more acceptance for their appearances. She denounced the criticism she faced when occasionally wearing revealing outfits, asserting her right to embrace her sexuality. The artist also acknowledged the evolving nature of her perception of womanhood, attributing some of it to her growing appreciation for women and female connections.

Reflecting on her song “What Was I Made For?” from the Barbie soundtrack, Eilish was moved by the viral TikTok trend it sparked, where people shared their perspectives on girlhood and womanhood. As she works on her third album, Eilish has also opened up about her evolving understanding of her sexuality, acknowledging attraction to both men and women. Despite her deep connections with women, she admitted feeling intimidated by their beauty and presence. Alongside her music career, Eilish has garnered attention for her acting debut in the Amazon Prime series Swarm, earning praise and speculation for potential Oscar recognition.
